Hi, I’m Renan, a software engineer. I’ve been building software since 2017. Before that, I spent a few years in industrial automation programming PLCs and HMIs, which is where I learned that code can move real things.
I’ve always loved building things. Engineering is often seen as an exact discipline, but to me building is a creative process, and it only works when you understand the people you’re building for. That’s exactly what drew me to programming: it lets one idea reach a lot of people.
These days I work mostly on the web, but I have a soft spot for projects that bring software and hardware together, where code leaves the screen and interacts with the physical world. The biggest one (which has turned into a hobby of its own) is a Portuguese-language voice assistant, a sort of homemade alternative to Alexa or Google Home.
A note on language
Most of this site is written in Portuguese, because the work itself is about Portuguese. Posts that have an English version appear under writing; the full archive lives at escritos.
In my spare time I take a few photos, mostly of Shoyu.
